The way in which painters depict scenes in their works of art has changed over time. Over time, two major types of art have emerged to take centre stage: the Western style of art and the Eastern style of art. Deepening our grasp of different painting styles is a wonderfully fascinating study that will provide us with a greater understanding of the diverse expressions of art found around the world.

Let us begin with the art of the Western tradition.

Painting in the Western style is becoming increasingly popular these days. Aspects of the great Western tradition of art include abstract painting, modernism, impressionism, as well as lesser-known types of art such as surrealism and photorealism, among others.

Modernism

Modernism in art is defined as art created between 1860 and 1970, with the majority of works produced between 1860 and 1970. It is a revolutionary way of thinking for artists of today’s day and age, with no restrictions created by the traditional manner to stifle their ability to express themselves artistically.

Impressionism

The origins of this art style can be traced back to Paris in the late nineteenth century. Impressionism is characterised by the use of common and commonplace things, delicate brush strokes, and unique angles, to name a few characteristics.

Art that is abstract

It is possible to regard any artistic depiction of reality that is illustrated but not in its most authentic form to be an abstract kind of art. I believe it to be the actual fruit of radical thought.

Expressionism

The abstract style of painting can take on many different shapes, and one of these is called “expressionism.” The outpouring of human emotions is depicted from the artist’s point of view, which is unique.

Cubism

Paul Cezanne, a prominent artist, once remarked, “Everything in nature draws its form from the cylinder, the cone, or the sphere.” He was referring to the cylinder, cone, or sphere. It is interesting to note that this later became the foundation for the art movement known as Cubism. This is another another expression of abstract art, and geometrical shapes play a significant role in this particular type of painting.

Surrealism

Surrealism was a movement that began in France in the early twentieth century and spread throughout the world. By putting images together in an irrational way, this art style attempted to liberate the creative power of the mind, according to its creators. Surrealism is a cultural trend that encompasses both visual art and written expression! The next style of art to be discussed is the Eastern style of art. The Eastern style of art has been affected by a wide range of cultures from around the world, some of which have emerged as notable contributors to the field. Let us have a look at some of the creative forms that have sprung up from different civilizations and traditions around the world.
